Coach of the Month


Each month we recognize a coach that has demonstrated outstanding dedication to his or her students. This award is based on parent feedback, interaction with the students, parents, and other coaches, organizational skills and attention to lesson plans and administrative duties. April 2013

  • Marcella Lovelace -

    Marcella Lovelace has been involved in sports since she was a small child. At the age of nine years old, she began to play soccer, basketball and softball. She participated on a softball team for 12 years and also competed on a travel ball team, at college level, and in adult league play. Cheerleading became her passion as a young teen and she began coaching cheer from sixteen until the present. She is a well-rounded athlete who loves sports.

    Marcella has received her Associates of Arts Degree in Physical Education and Human Performance at Foothill College. She later completed her degree in Medical Assisting School at IBT and finally accomplished her dream of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Health Management.

    Coach Marcella is the mother of two beautiful boys ages three and four. She enjoys instructing youth of all ages.

  • Shanda Venneau - CA - Orange County

    Golf, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball, Ice Skating

    Coach Shanda Venneau is no novice to teaching or sports and EMH is excited to have her as an instructor. She started playing competitively at the age of 5 years old with ice skating. From the age of 8, she began playing softball and AYSO soccer.

    Coach Venneau was the starting second baseman for the varsity softball team her freshman year. She also played volleyball, soccer, and golf in high school. Her love of sports led her to work for the Boys and Girls Club and YMCA as a day leader, Itty-bitty tee-ball coach and swim instructor. She played softball for Golden West College and then continued her education at Cal State Fullerton with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the School of Communications and emphasis in photo-communications and minor in political science.

    Coach Venneau is a member of the National Honors Society in Journalism and Mass Communication. She went on to University of Phoenix and received a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the State of California. Coach Venneau's love for golf and education led her to work at Pelican Hill Golf Resort and assist with the drills at the Glen Deck Golf Academy. She also coached golf for 1st-3rd grade at the Better Golf Academy, and tutored at the Get-A-Grip Foundation. Her photography career has led her on a path to photograph many sports, celebrities and athletes. She has worked with ESPN, The NBA, and in 2011 won the PGA sponsorship Conference Golf Tournament at the Sea Side Golf Course on Sea Island Georgia where the McGladrey is being held. Shanda also specializes in photographing corporate and charity golf tournaments.

  • Ian Mascarenhas - CA - San Diego County

    Softball, Volleyball, Baseball, Soccer, Football, & Basketball

    Coach Mascarenhas brings an extensive and impressive background in softball to our sport’s lineup. He has managed softball teams for many years and has served as a Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner for softball leagues managing 62 different teams in the San Diego County area.

    Coach Mascarenhas has also coached youth volleyball and baseball for several years.

    When he is not coaching for EMH, he works for his church as a Director of Religious Education and a youth minister, overseeing programs for children/young adults in preschool through high school.  He has also worked in the banking industry and in computer network support roles.

    Coach Mascarenhas enjoys working with youth of all ages.

  • Kristy Oswalt - CA - San Diego County

    Pilates, Yoga, Aerobics, Surfing, Canoeing, White Water Rafting, Body Surfing, Skiing, Ice-Hogar Fishing, Soccer, Softball

    Coach Kristy Oswalt brings a wealth of athletic ability to EMH.   Coach Oswalt graduated from USIU San Diego with 2 majors, Physical Education and Health.  She also completed courses for the California Teaching Credential Program for grades K1-12th.

    She is highly proficient in water sports: surfing, canoeing, white water river rafting, and body surfing.  She has also spent time teaching and volunteering for after school team sport activities.  

    Coach Oswalt has an extensive background in Aerobics, Yoga, Nutrition, Health, Kinesiology, and Preventive & Adaptive PE.  

    When she is not instructing for EMH, she teaches Classical Pilates mat routines privately and has earned a Pilates Mat certification through Pilates Mind and Body work courses.

    She also works with children and elders providing various levels of modified Pilates routines and nutritional evaluations.

  • Stefani Agostini - CA - San Joaquin County, CA - Stanislaus County

    Basketball, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball

    EMH welcomes Stefani Agostini to our team of coaches. Coach Stefani played all four years on the varsity basketball and softball teams in high school. She went on to participate in the California state championships in her senior year. Basketball is her passion and she played competitively for two years at the college level. She currently coaches a girl's basketball team while she finishes up her degree in psychology and a teaching credential. She enjoys working with youth of all ages.

  • Michelle Boles - CA - Orange County

    Volleyball, Soccer, Softball

    EMH is honored to welcome Michelle Boles to our coaching team. She brings a wealth of experience instructing children in the classroom setting as well as summer day camps. As a first grade teacher, her patience and easy going personality make her a favorite with students. Coach Michelle works with the children’s ministry at her church and is currently homeschooling her two sons. She has experience in a variety of sports especially, volleyball. Coach Michelle enjoys working with children of all ages.

  • Lisa Burnes - CA - Orange County

    Dance, Choreography, Track and Field, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball

    Lisa Casullo Burnes has been teaching all styles of dance and fitness for over 25 years. Conducting Master Dance Classes, working with Performing Arts Camps, teaching at numerous dance studios across the country and for many City Parks and Recreation. Lisa so enjoys bringing her love of dance and sports to all students.

    She has traveled extensively with numerous dance and revue shows worldwide such as “Will Roger’s Follies”, “Annie”, “The Nutcracker” and “West Side Story”. For three years in a row, Lisa has starred as a Radio City Rockette in “The Radio City Christmas Spectacular” show.

    As a teen, Lisa played ice hockey, basketball and even lettered in Indoor Track her Senior year of high school all while continuing to study dance.

    As a choreographer, Lisa has created pieces for Busch Gardens Theme Park and the stage productions of “Nunsense”, “Godspell”, “Cinderella”, “Plain & Fancy”, “The Chipper Show”, “Pride and Prejudice: The Musical” and “The Chipper Lowell Experience”.

  • Steve Otten - CA - Sacramento County, CA - Solano County

    Football, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, Track & Field, Soccer

    Coach Steve Otten is an exceptional instructor and we welcome him to the EMH family. He earned his B. S. Degree in Physical Education from CSUS and his M.S. in Special Education from National University. He has participated in team sports from childhood to adult. Coach Otten has a vast background coaching football, basketball and baseball. His students have ranged from the severely disabled to the elite athlete. He is the North Central Head for the Homeschool Sports League Federation.

    Some of his other interests include a background in mortgage, real estate, and the marketing industries.  He enjoys the great outdoors in his spare time and family is extremely important to him.  His wife also has an extensive athletic background and is enshrined in her college and high school Hall of Fames. Their three sons have also participated in Varsity sports. The oldest is currently playing D1 College Football.

    Coach Otten's goal in instruction is to make sure that his students are having fun, enjoying the experience of play while developing a passion for lifelong health and fitness.

  • Marlene MacIsaac - CA - Riverside County

    Golf, Softball, Horseback Riding, Rodeo, Snow Skiing, Water Skiing, Curling and Ice Skating

    Coach Marlene MacIsaac is a very talented athlete from Canada and we are excited to have her as one of our coaches. She has an extensive background in the realm of softball and golf.  She played for her city league and took home a division championship. 

    Her educational background is in Engineering where she holds a degree in Piping and Instrumentation Design for oil and gas exploration.  As one of our outstanding instructors, her patience and caring attitude has made her one of the EMH favorites.  In her spare time Coach Marlene is an avid golfer and has 3 holes in one to her credit. She enjoys working with children of all ages.

  • Mike Perez - CA - L.A. County

    Coach Mike Perez is no novice to the realm of sports and EMH is excited to have him as a coach. He has played and competed during his high school years in wrestling, football, baseball and track and field. He went on to pursue his love of football in college while studying kinesiology. He has been a youth coach in baseball and football and his positive and motivational instruction serves his students well.

  • Ernie Rama - NV - Clark County

    Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Football, Volleyball & Track and Field

    Ernie Rama is an exceptional basketball coach. He played at the collegiate level at Concordia University and was a professional basketball player in the IBL, ABA in Mexico and Germany. Coach Rama is the owner and director of 360 Hoops Basketball Training. He is also Lead Coach for the Homeschool Sports League Federation in Las Vegas. He has a B.A. in Health and Physical Education from Concordia University. Coach Rama enjoys working with youth of all ages.

  • Martha Ashe - CA - San Diego County

    Tennis, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball, and Track & Field

    Coach Martha Ashe is a great addition to the EMH Sports family lending us her expertise in the sport of tennis.  Coached by Dave Sanderlin, who played doubles with tennis star Arthur Ashe, has made her tennis knowledge second to none.  After graduating from San Diego State College, Martha has participated in numerous tennis tournaments throughout the San Diego area and continues to perfect her game on a weekly basis. 

    Martha is actively involved in youth events through her church and has also worked as a missionary.  Her travels have taken her to far off places such as Africa, Indonesia, Russia and parts of Europe.  Instructor Ashe’s missionary work is extremely important to her as she continues to volunteer in relief-type ventures.

  • Jennifer Shipp - CA - San Diego County

    Softball, Swimming, Soccer, Volleyball, Track & Field

    Coach Jennifer Shipp is a Lead PE Instructor for EMH Sports USA. She brings her special blend of talent to EMH on the softball field.  She started out as a young player in softball and was the MVP of her club league.  In high school she played center field and catcher.  Her athleticism also had her as a member of the swim team.  Upon graduation of high school, she has continued her love of softball by playing on many league teams throughout the state of California. 

    Coach Shipp has participated in the development of youth physical fitness through her church where she volunteers her services in her spare time.  She has also traveled around the world as a missionary and enjoys working with orphaned children.

  • Karen Wentzel

     Karen Wentzel is the Manager of the Adaptive Physical Education Program for EMH USA.  She brings many years of experience to the EMH Adaptive Physical Education (APE) program. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Physical Education major and Adapted Physical Education and Health Education minors.

    EMH Sports USA now has open enrollment youth PE classes for the homeschool network from grades preK-12th in Southern Nevada and Northern and Southern California. More locations are being added each month! Email us to bring a class to your area.
    We also have a wishlist started for Arizona, Hawaii, North Carolina, and Florida locations!
    Our classes offer diverse, developmentally appropriate activities for all students. Your kids will have fun, develop new friendships, and learn the fundamental skills of playing team sports.

    Nobody wants to get out of this gym class. "I walk out to that site and all those kids are reaching up to give me a hug and a high five," said Marlene MacIsaac, the Hemet coach for EMH, a Temecula-based company that hosts PE classes for homeschoolers across the state.
