Coach Lesson Plan

**Don’t spend too much time on drills as they need to play for at least 20-30 minutes.

Warm up – have your group run to a point you designate, then stretch, take roll.

Goal for Session 2 - How to throw.

Skill development:The concept we teach is: Move the feet to take the hands to the ball. Move your feet to catch and reach forward to catch.

I. Throwing: ( 3 steps) Have students stand with feet together in a horizontal line with arms at their sides and give each a ball. Show them how to hold it in the hand - by placing 3 middle fingers over the front (V shape) and the little finger and thumb underneath. They should hold the softball in their dominate hand. If you have a large class, divide into two groups and bring one group up at a time. Let them retreive their own balls after they throw them.

Step 1. (right handed individual) Student will step out with their right foot and simultaneously turn the right shoulder back and place the ball at waist level.

Step 2. Take a step forward with their left foot. Emphasize not to move the upper body position.

Step 3. Throw the ball by releasing and point at their target. Have students  retrieve the balls and start again. Give them a couple of tries.

II. Play a Game - no stealing bases.
